Donnelly Lauds Action to Level Playing Field for Hoosier Farmers

Senator has consistently advocated for farmers and workers against illegal international subsidies

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly released the following statement after the United States filed a new case today against China at the World Trade Organization (WTO) alleging that the Chinese government has illegally subsidized its rice, wheat, and corn crops.

Donnelly said, “Trade is important to our economy, and nobody knows that better than Hoosier farmers. We also know, however, that trade only works when everyone plays by the same rules. Whether it’s illegal subsidies for corn or steel, China continues to manipulate prices to undercut American farmers and manufacturers. That is why I support strong efforts, like today’s enforcement action, that hold the Chinese accountable, so we can ensure that Indiana’s farmers can compete on a level playing field.”

Donnelly has consistently advocated for the U.S. to be active against foreign governments that undermine American farmers and workers through illegal subsidies, including in the agricultural and steel sectors. He has also supported legislation to expand export opportunities for Hoosier farmers.
