Donnelly Announces Veterans History Project Event in Auburn
Indianapolis, Ind. – U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly, who serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee, announced that his office will host a Veterans History Project event at the Smith Farms Manor in Auburn, Indiana from 12:00 PM – 2:30 PM EDT on Thursday, September 8th, 2016. The Veterans History Project is an effort by the Library of Congress to preserve the first-hand experiences of those who served in the United States military by recording their personal narratives and archiving them for future use by historians, teachers, and the general public.
Donnelly said, “The men and women who courageously served our country have moving stories to share about their service. It is important that we record their statements so that future generations have the opportunity to learn from their experiences and appreciate the sacrifices they have made to protect our freedoms.”
Donnelly’s staff and other Hoosier volunteers will be present to interview veterans. Area veterans are encouraged to attend in order to have their stories recorded and are welcome to bring photos, letters, or other memorabilia to share. Individuals in the community who would like to volunteer to interview the veterans are also welcome. Veterans who want to share their stories and volunteers who want to interview veterans should RSVP to Donnelly’s office by contacting Ryan Wiegand at Ryan_Wiegand@donnelly.senate.gov or by calling 317-226-5555.
