TIPPECANOE CO., Ind. (WLFI) -- As the efforts to reform healthcare continue in Washington, Democratic Sen. Joe Donnelly said he continuing to fight for Indiana's best interest.

Donnelly said he's been meeting with his Republican colleagues to work on a new frame work for healthcare.

It includes working on new legislation to stabilize the insurance market. That's something he said has been threatened by the current administration.

Donnelly said one of the set backs in reform was an effort to take healthcare from more than 400,000 Hoosiers.

"We stopped that dead in its tracks," said Donnelly. "They were going to dramatically increase rates on those with pre-existing conditions. We were able to stop that as well. For older Hoosiers, they were going to increase rates four or five times over, and we were able to stop all of those things."

Donnelly said the focus now is working to stabilize insurance premiums and deductibles.
